Letters of Note

The Letters of Note project served as a means to teach us how to lay out type on a spread in the most expressive manner possible. To grasp this experience, Kenny selected a letter that his grandfather had written. It was a heartfelt letter addressed to his three-week-old grandson, which Kenny pairs with the Air Force creed to connect the teachings the grandfather intended for his grandson.

The significance of this project to Kenny lies in how he relates to his grandfather. Kenny never formally met him, and the only encounter they had was brief; in all honesty, Kenny only met his grandfather once during a thirty-day vacation. Following that encounter, his grandfather passed away shortly afterward. Kenny felt overwhelmed with guilt for not taking the opportunity to know him better. Observing how his own grandson would never meet his grandfather, Kenny believed it would be a heartwarming experience for his grandson to receive some form of guidance from his late grandfather. This motivation drove Kenny to meticulous work, aiming to capture the precise tone of the letter and ensuring the narrative resonated with empathy wholeheartedly.
